Was in Lexington, KY for a few days and took advantage of a couple free hours to explore a small urban creek near our hotel just to see what might be swimming in there.
First thing I noticed, besides tons of crays, were liberal numbers of creek chubs ranging from 1/2 inch to this size.
Then started digging around in the rocks with a dipnet and found a pretty good population of darters. I think these are a mix of male orangethroats, female orangethroats and fantail darters.
Before I left I netted this guy. Perhaps a juvenile white sucker?
At this point I called it a day. Here is a pic of said creek. This part of the creek is in a small park but a stone's throw from a heavily urbanized area of Lexington. Traced it on google maps to be part of the Kentucky River watershed. This was near its headwaters.
