[Fleendar the Magnificent]

One of my silver shiners continually let's his tail drop and nose point to the surface of the water. He eats perfectly fine, he still is active, never bellies up or lays on the bottom and swims normally, but in between he lets his tail drop, sometimes to the point of being perfectly vertical. Is this an air bladder issue or something else?

Yes, looks like a swim bladder/buoyancy issue.  Could be the result of an infection.

Thank you Nick, much appreciated I am assuming that such an infection doesn't go away on it's own and I don't have a quarantine tank.

It may go away, but they usually don't--as least with shiners that I've seen.  It may not be infectious to others,  but it will be difficult to treat even if you had a QT tank.  You should let it ride until you see quality of life deteriorate.

He wasn't doing well at all today, mostly nose up, mouth open and breathing rapidly so I put it down. The other one seems to be doing fine for now. No buoyance issues and he's eating. The spotfins are doing well and I find it interesting how hard the spotfins hit the surface. They eat flake food and they really hit the top water hard.

Anyhow, thanks again. Hated to put it down, but it just wasn't doing well at all.
