Hi everyone,

New salt marsh tank is up and running. It is the new home of Nubbins our female diamond back terrapin. Nubbins is missing one of her front feet, hence the name. She seems happy in the tank, she likes to squeeze in to the skinny end of the tank and hang out in the filter outflow. I was a little nervous she might get stuck but she can really get herself around. I really thought she might eat all the live mussels but she seems to be more interested in chasing fish. In the tank with her are live hook mussels, oysters, mud crabs, mummichogs and some macro algae. When the weather warms again I will try to collect some grasses to go in there. I also need to collect some more sand and build the beach up a little and fill in a few underwater spots where the egg crate is showing. Hopefully I will get the stand finished soon.

I hope you all like it. If you live local to the DC area you should consider visiting us. Info at Gepaquarium.org

This looks like a really interesting tank! Do you cycle the flow and/or water level? If so, would you be willing to share the process and control details? Thanks for sharing.

The water level is fixed in this tank. I have never done a tidal tank before but I want to some day. There is a Facebook group called tidalariums, intertidal aquariums. The guy who runs it lives in hongkong and has some pretty clever ways of cycling between high and low tide.

I've seen this tank and it's a really cool build.  So is the oyster reef tank.  Like Nick says above, if you live in the DC area, stop by and pay them a visit at the Glen Echo Park Aquarium.  By the way, this was Nick's (littlen) tank that he donated, put to really good use.  It is really a cool display, well done.

Big thumbs up!  Great display.  Terrapins are fantastic turtles, if not a bit doofus-y.
