There is something rare which I never had heard of (nor seen), Northern Sunfish, Lepomis Peltastes. Boundary Waters locale. See the Spring 2019 American Currents. Looks like a Green x Pumpkinseed cross.

The fish. L petastes used to be considered a longear subspecies. Now it's own species. Not rare at all just newly split. Bait tanks commonly have green sunfish hitch hikers, and can come from hundreds of miles away. That is a very good article BTW.

I ended up with a small green sunfish about a month ago from the local fish store. They had gotten it in with a shipment of feeder golds, so they gave it to me. Clearly a male with the gold in the fins and white fin edges.
