When they were young, I never knew how colorful spotfin shiners really could be because they were just silver with clear fins. Now that they're full grown, the colorful iridescence, the black bands and white trim of their fins is gorgeous. This doesn't mention the bluish-purple of their scales in sunlight. Sorry for the not so good photos. Spotfins seem to be the Corvette of shiners and constantly move.
Last photo is of my Northern Longear sunfish. He's gotten a LOT bigger and more colorful.
