[Fleendar the Magnificent]

When they were young, I never knew how colorful spotfin shiners really could be because they were just silver with clear fins. Now that they're full grown, the colorful iridescence, the black bands and white trim of their fins is gorgeous. This doesn't mention the bluish-purple of their scales in sunlight. Sorry for the not so good photos. Spotfins seem to be the Corvette of shiners and constantly move.

Last photo is of my Northern Longear sunfish. He's gotten a LOT bigger and more colorful.

Many other Cyprinellas also get those silvery-green iridescent fin margins and blue-violet or blue-green on the body.

I once had four satinfins along with other minnows, dace and darters in a 55g with a strong HOB filter.  The satinfins had a similar coloration, and the same white trimmed fins.  It was always fun watching them dart around the current of the filter outflow tube.  I can't wait to collect more of them or spotfins for my tank.  Soon!

I think that the satinfins and steelcolor shiners are very closely related and alike in features. Never have seen any satinfins around central Ohio. Not sure if we're outside of their range or not, but we have plenty of spotfins.

These guys zoom all around the tank chasing one another. Very fast and zippy fish. They're the sports car of the fish world. Hope you get some in your tank soon. Look forward to seeing your root/bankline tank done!

Me too. They're such a very active and out-front type of fish. They don't try to hide like other fish do. They're always front and center in my tank.
