I am thinking of setting up a 180 with pumpkinseeds, as my daughter has been asking when we could go fish collecting.  I think it would be a neat projected to help teach her about local fish and aquarium care.  How many pumpkinseeds would reasonably/comfortably fit in a 180 gallon aquarium.

I was thinking 4-6.  I know 4 would be fine, but would 6 be too many?

Unfortunately I’m not sure of the tank size requirements for pumpkinseeds are. I do suggest searching through this forum. I’m sure there are some older threads that can answer your questions.

Comes down to sex ratio in my experience. When the males start nesting they will aggressively defend a third to half of that tank. You would be safe with 2 males, and around 4 females. Other people overcrowd the tank to try and minimize aggression towards a single fish but I haven't had luck with that.
