Ok, I have warmouth and they are awesome! I currently have a thin layer of natural gravel in my tank, it looks nice. The resevoir where I collected my fish from seems to have a sandy bottom. I have read that warmouth like muddy, but I can't do that. Would some of my marine sand be better? I would like to make their stay with me very comfortable.

The gravel is fine, give him a cave or something if you want to. That will make him more comfortable and he will likely stay out in plain view if he knows he has a place he can hide.
