Actually, what's sad, is that these fish aren't even tankbusters. Not some huge fish people can't house in the future, not something that eats 20$ worth of food a week, but a few inch fish that could be kept in any normal sized tank. Or one that could just be pawned off on someone.

They can reach a pretty good size, at least in terms of length. About 10-12". I have two currently, both about 7". Actually keep them in a native (mostly native) community.

I wonder if they could be caught and sold to pet stores?

Bad Idea. Well, good for the seller, short term, but potentially bad in the long run.
Once word gets out that invasives are worth money, greedy people could be inspired to release more exotics in the hopes of harvesting them later for a proffit.
I believe this is why Hawhii banned the possesion and sale of exotic herps taken from the wild. When they passed that law, lots of people felt that harvest and sale would be a good way to get rid of the exotics. Unfortunately, it seems some exotic herps already established there [jackson chamelian?] were released by someone hoping to sell the offspring.
{excuse my spelling, I'm in a hurry]

Edit: added phrase "taken from the wild"
