I have a 55 gallon tank that I am currently keeping a small 8 in bass in. Right now I have a few pieces of drift wood in it. What plants should I buy or capture that won't overgrow and crowd the tank? And also I need to get a power head for my under gravel filter, but I don't want a lot of current and have a over sized element filter (for a 120 gal tank) so I was assuming I could go small on the power head, or I may be wrong...

if you want a native plant you could put some elodea (formorly, but still commonly labeled in pet stores as, anacharis). I grows quick and multiplies like crazy.

Are there different types of elodea? The stuff I see in my local waterways is different than the anachris I find at the petstore. They seem very similar otherwise so I am assuming they are just different types of the same plant species.

There are different types, but it also can look different according to water temp and conditions.
