Just wondering what everybody else uses.
Mine eat Hikari Cichlid Gold as there staple diet, with Aqueon Cichlid Sticks changed in every now and then.
They also eat earthworms and some bugs that the kids catch.

I use tetra live food alternative pellets, these are relatively soft and large so they can be broken up or crushed for smaller fish.

What an excellent question, one that I always hem and haw over. I have been feeding the Hikari Gold as well. But I'd love to find a food that could help bring out the blues as well as the reds in my longear. It seems like most foods are formulated to bring out reds. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

I used to feed strictly Hikari for my cichlids, sunfish, and all my other fish for that matter. I've started using New Life Spectrum, and all my fish absolutely love it.

I feed my warmouth market shrimp and hikari floating carnivore pellets. That's about the only sunfish I'm keeping up until recently.

nativeplanter, have you tried FD krill or freshwater shrimp? I have an OSS now, and will probably get him on those I mentioned with market shrimp being the staple.

I use the New Life Spectrum pellets and nearly every fish I feed eats them. THey come in a variety of sizes so that I can cater to the individual species if necessary.

If you're asking about New Life Spectrum, I buy it online. I buy it from Amazon.com and combine whatever I need with a couple of CD's or movies and get free shipping. Of course, I spend more for the CD's or movies than shipping would be, but as seldom as I buy food, there's always a CD or two that I want.......may as well get the shipping free.
Aquabid also has NLS frequently.

Wouldn't those enhance reds? Or would they also enhance blues? I honestly don't know what pigment might help the blue come out more. Chlorophyll, maybe?

Now that I think about it, yeah, you're right.

From an artcile on cichlid-forum.com :
"The blue-green algae spirulina is a rich source of phycocyanin and may be added to a diet to enhance blue coloration"

I feed commercial pellets, either 3 mm, or 5.5 mm. Cheap, and effective. Otherwise it is live daphnia, whiteworms, or some frozen. Also quite a bit of flake
