One of my friends is offering me his smallmouth bass and his green sunfish. I would like to get bother fish but I wanted to ask a few questions first. First, I have a 150 gallon tank for the bass. Would this tank be big enough for a small mouth? I once read that they rarely reach 20" so I think it would work but I want more opinions. Also, he only has one green sunfish and I would like a pair. How do you sex greens so I know I have a pair?

I kept a smallmouth in my 265 for a while and he had more than enough room. He didn't live long enough to grow longer than 8" though. He attempted to eat one of my Central American cichlids and both fish died. He was well fed too, so it kind of puzzled me.
It depends on the dimensions of the 150.......bass need lots of space.

I would just like to add sm bass under the right conditions can reach very large sizes. Last year I caught an 8lb sm that then proceed to regurgitate a 1lb pike. Which brings me to my next point they eat almost anything they can put in their mouth so do not keep it with smaller delicate fish when it gets bigger. But if you do decide on taking this fish one thing you can do is train it to take a worm out of your hand. (friend did this with a wild bass until it got eaten by a tiger muskie while he was feeding it)

a 150 should be good for a sm but an upgrade would be better and you could house the green with the sm
