I just got back from what may have been they greatest fish collecting experience of my life even though im now covered in chiggers, totally worth it. The roster of willing bootstomppers included Matt, Uland, Chip, Ed, Holly, Nate, and myself. The majority of the group excluding nate and i got to Kentucky on thursday were they netted in the park we stayed at and one other location. The name of this body of water in the park is War Fork Creek. Nate and i did not participate in that collection on Thursday but we netted it on Friday moments after getting out of the car.

War Fork Creek Species List

The second locatoin that Matt and the group netted at on friday was Sturgeon Creek. I do not have the collection data from that location so you guys will have to add that in.

The first location that we visited on Saturday was another spot on Sturgeon Creek. The creek had crystal clear riffles followed by deep pools. The substrate consisted mainly of cobble with a few larger rocks.

Yeah Uland, no need to be self critical. All I can say is WOW!

In looking at your male Tippie, I can buy the "shumardi" is a female Tippie. When I first looked at the other photo I thought "female redline" which preliminarily gets us into Nothonotus, but then let myself get distracted with lists. I think Dr. Dave is in China right now, so he may be field bound with no connection for a couple days. Hopefully we'll hear from him shortly.

I'd be real interested to know if that's an Ohio Muskie too (the riverine native subspecies). I talked to Matt a little about it. Sounded like there was a potential stocked lake downstream. Probably won't know without jaw shots though. Still, cool as hell :)

I've got to add a Red River species to the list... Blackside Darter (Percina maculata)

The large Percina sp. that I was sure was a Dusky turned out to be a Blackside when I got it home and in the aquarium. Oh well. Uland, those pictures are really great! Thank you for taking time to capture these images for us. I would like to clean up the species list for my own record. Also, Uland could you e-mail me the photos?

To everyone who came along on the trip: Thanks for inviting me, I had a great time. Good comradery, good fishing, good beer, and just good times in general. I still laugh when I think about Chip sliding down the mud-slide of a bank and almost taking out Holly, Ed, and I with him. Also, Ed falling asleep at the campfire every night..haha. Get yourself to your tent, Ed! Thanks again Uland for the badass Tiger Shrimp dinner...and of course to Matt for the Sky-Line style Chili on Saturday night. Can't wait until next time.

I didn't know that there were subspecies of muskies. Where, please, can I find out more about this?

Fishes of Ohio is probably the best read on the subject. You can also hit Google Scholar and see if you can get any papers put out by respective DNR's. PA, WV, OH, KY and IN have all put some effort into the conservation of these critters. The subspecies name is ohioensis.

Nate... You can "right click, save picture as" from the forum.

Yeah, I've got that down, but he took (according to him) about 300 pictures in total. Including some of Mike and I swimming through some deep pools with the 20' seine.

Those 300 pictures are going to be WAY too big to e-mail. Uland, I would like to request, and I pay all associated costs, that a CD-R containing the pictures from the Kentucky trip, as well as the Convention pictures from the trips that you jointly led with Drew and which I attended, be mailed to me. That would be the best way to distribute the pictures to the attendees. Thanks.

Instead of saving them from the forum, you should go to the gallery with this link (http://gallery.nanfa...ucky summer 07/) and open the full version up (look for the little drop down in the upper right corner or just click full size) and "right click save as" from there.

As far as the deep water evening shots....I can email the lot to you and should get to post some of them later tonight.
