Although I am an experienced aquarium fish keeper (discus, angelfish, African cichlids) I have no experience with natives but I really want to give myself a try with these guys, so could you please refer me to any reading on this forum or somewhere else to get basic info about our native fish (especially the species in Quebec/Ontario, Canada)? I have found several articles on the web but none of them have specific data such as pH, temperature, etc.
Thank a lot!

Hey you guys! While I was fishing (just a toy rod, line and earthworm) with my 4-year-old son at the Laurentians, Quebec, Canada, we found a gorgeous fish that happened to be a sunfish (not sure which species). I instantly fell in love with this kind of fish I had never seen before!

I'm guessing you caught pumkinseeds, since you said it was gorgeous and you live in Canada. It isn't much different than keeping tropicals, except without a heater, and you might need to start off with live foods, then train them to eat pellets. Just set up a tank with a filter, lights, etc. and it'll do fine. Sunfish are very hardy, so they'll be a lot easier to take care of than discus.

I've brought pumpkinseeds home, and fed them freeze-dried food the next day. They've taken it eagerly. You won't have any trouble getting these fish to eat.I'm guessing you caught pumkinseeds, since you said it was gorgeous and you live in Canada.
