Might be planted, might not be, I'm not entirely sure what I want to do with it, but I know I want small native fish. I initially thought I'd go for Central Stonerollers but they require fairly large groups that wouldn't fit in such a small tank. I have experience with darters and mosquitofish but want to branch out here.

Stonerollers do not require a large group.  They can be kept individually.  However a 10 gallon tank would be unsuitable for a fish that can get ~6" in length.  A few darters and other, local, shiners that get 2-3" would be ideal.  KY has no shortage of great species to choose from.... to include dace, madtoms, studfish, topminnows, sculpin.....

I agree with Nick, but I would offer a specific suggestion based on my experience and your home state.  If you are in the western part of the state, I might suggest pugnose minnows Opsopoeodus emiliae as they stay small and have interesting behaviours.  They are more subtle in coloration (having not much except maybe a thin orange/gold line above the lateral strip.  But I think they are an interesting looking fish in their own right.
