This one looks different, a bit darker than the other 2 red shiners I have. Also the nose seems to turn down more, but Im not certain because I havent really gotten a good look since they are in my 120 gal and they are almost constantly moving. Also Ive been stirring up the tank getting it set up and I still have a bit of sand dust.

This photo isnt great, but if its good enough to tell whether or not this is a red shiner, I would appreciate it. This fish was collected in in a stream in SE Shawnee county, Kansas.

Looks like a golden shiner, Notemigonus chrysoleucas, see how the lateral line dips down really low. I thinks its the only NA minnnow that has that, in the east anyway.

That appears to be a Lythrurus and not a Cyprinella.

I would guess redfin shiner Lythrurus umbratilis.

I am also down with Lythrurus. I assume that since it is not Ohio river drainage, that it is likely umbratilus.

I too agree that it is a redfin shiner not a red shiner.
