I caught this fellow on rod and reel in the Chiques Creek, Lancaster County PA on Sunday, 9/23/2007. He's about 6 inches long and readily eats worms. I think he is a common shiner but I can't quite pin it down. Any thoughts?

Striped or Crescent, maybe? I don't have a book in front of me.

I'm with Fundulus. Not only does look like a Common but Common Shiner are the only naturally existing Luxilus in that part of the state.

OK, its hard to see in the pics but there are three crescent shaped dark markings on the sides. But as already stated, only the common shiner should be in this area. Any thoughts?

My thought would be that it's a Luxilus species, and since common shiners are the only Luxilus species in your area that's the species. Common and striped shiners aren't that different, and share having irregular vertical marks on their sides.

Hmm, somewhat resembles the shiners I catch here:

Very interesting fish to have in a school.
I have one in an outdoor pond, reaching about 9 inches or so.

Yeah, your pink-finned shiner is a Luxilus species too.
