Sunfish Spawning Plans

Is anyone going to try getting Sunfish to spawn this winter?

It should be possible with a 55 gallon tank or a smaller species of sunfish
and
increasing the hours of light the fish get per day.

p.s.
Anyone have a nice female Dollar Sunfish?

I'm going to try my longears and warmouth. Give them 14-16hrs of light and a temp in the high 70's. Oh, and LOTS of food.

Many of my sunfish usually do spawn durring the winter wether I want them too or not. Like fishlvr just said I don't think there is much more too it than that. My sugestions would not only be feed them a lot but vary the diet giving them treats like earth worms and live crickets that have been gutloaded. What type of male dollar do you have a wester or eastern?

I have a well-traveled Dollar Sunfish.

The fish came from Mobile, Alabama and just moved to Detroit, Michigan.

So based on the location it came from it should be the western form of dollar. And you must think it is a male since you were asking for a female? I do have a lot of your little w. dollars for sale, although I'm not sure they are quite big enough to sex yet but I could try to find one I am relatively confident is a female if you can wait a couple weeks till I get them all indoors and moved. pm me if your interested and we can discuss it further.
