I can't really tell for sure, but it looks like the last fish has a first dorsal fin -- some spring dwelling darter species maybe?
tuscumbia?

Ding ding ding ding... wasn't trying to be tricky at all, it's a Florence species!

good call, Marcus.

I have a preserved tuscumbia on my desk, by strange coincidence. But it's from Limestone county, not Lauderdale, and really doesn't look much like the photo (it is, of course dead...). Oh well, thanks for playing!

Well, I got a score of 16, mostly from guesswork. Does that count? LOL
Maybe a Minnesotan should try an Alabama version of this test, eh?

Sample question, Alabama version:

L-Y's, also known as Razorbellies, make great baitfish for catching:
A- Tarpon
B- Largemouth Bass
C- Alligator gar
D- Red Drum

That's right, killier! Of course, you're a southerner, not a Minnesotan.

L-Y is the way deep many southerners & florida panhandlers pronounce "alewife." Sadly, many don't even know it and think they're actually called L-Ys. *sigh*

Mike, I know #6 since it's so obvious, but I have to admit I've never even heard of some of those fish. It's kind of embarassing. Silly yankee mutants.

Yes,
Splake is a cross between a female Lake Trout & a male Brook Trout.
Tiger Musky is a cross between a Northern Pike & a Muskie.

Anyone know the others.

Sorry Irate Mormon all wrong.

I saw some Wipers in a Cabela's display once, but while it irked me that I didn't know what they were, it never even occurred to me that they were some sort of hybrid.

1. Crocidile Gar is a cross between a Alligator Gar & one of the following, Florida Gar, Spotted Gar, or Longnose Gar.

2. Cutbow is a cross between a Cutthroat Trout & a Rainbow Trout.

3. Hybrid Sunfish (most common sold/fish hatcheries) Bluegill & a Green Sunfish.

4. Mule Whitefish is a cross between Lake Whitefish & Cisco.

5. Pinook is a cross between Pink Salmon & Chinook Salmon.

6. Saugeye is a cross between Sauger & Walleye.

7. Splake is a cross between a female Lake Trout & a male Brook Trout.

8. Tiger Musky is a cross between a Muskie & a Northern Pike.

9. Tiger Trout is a cross between a Brown Trout & a Brook Trout.

10. Wiper is a cross beween a White Bass & Striped Bass.

Also people crossed Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout to make a Brownbow, but most of the fry die so it is not usually done.

Dave, I'll guess Cottus aleuticus for mystery fish #6

Since there seem to be no other takers, what are the answers to your quiz?
