What, how much & how often do you feed your sunfish?

Mine eat mainly Hikari food sticks with the occasional mesquito fish, ghost shrimp, or small shad from a nearby lake where I collected the sunfish. Any problem with me feeding them with these live foods? They don't last long in the tank.

I have 3 warmouths 1 is about 5 1/2" 2 at 4" and a longear at 5"

I had to move the longear to his own tank because he was to agressive with the longear - killed one of them that was 5 1/2".

Wondering if I am not feeding them enough.

It depends on what size for me, but mine about your size are a green, rock bass, LMB, SMB.
I feed them frozen shrimp/krill about three times a week, and every day I give them food sticks.
I feed them until they are nice and fat.
They are all about 4 inches long, but the green is currently recovering from a pike cichlid attack. He was almost killed and has literally half a tail left.

Mine eat Hikari Cichlid Gold as there staple diet, with Aqueon Cichlid Sticks and Tetramin sticks changed in every now and then. Durning the summer I will feed them once every day but this winter I have been feeding them everyother day.

Here is a topic I had awhile back.

I feed my warmouth and shadow bass about 4 times a day (just one sinking or floating pellet at each feeding), then a heavy feeding about 2 times a week ( I would estimate that they each eat between 7-8 floating hikiri gold pellets or the same amount of sinking HBH super soft pellets, usually with a worm, fd shrimp, or cricket), I will generally skip feeding at least two day out of every week at random depending on work schedule. I have gone up to 4 days w/o a feeding in that tank. The shadow bass will generally eat about every other feeding, it is much more timid that the warmouth, and is much smaller, the warmouth is easily 3 times the size.

with planted O-spot and shiner tank, I feed small amounts 2-3 times a day, no one feeds them fri-sun (i usually do a w/c on fri after noon or sat morning, i will generally feed a small amount just before.)

I have two sunfish: a dollar and a warmouth.

I feed them daily or every other day.

I usually feed them Tetra carnivorous fish sticks but I also supplement with live worms, ect.

My dollar sunfish also likes to chase and hunt down feeder guppies.

I feed all of my adult Lepomis sunfish (currently 9 species or subspecies) a staple of tetra live food alternative pellets and then ocassionally feed them crickets earthworms and even the ocasional wild caught minnow. The smaller Lepomis sunfish are fed a mix of frozen blood worms and the same pellets as the adults crushed up. I also have two of the Enneacanthus sp. and they are fed frozen blood worms and when I can get them live black worms. I have a flier and a 10" Redeye Bass that eat the same diet as all the Lepomis and I have a Mud Sunfish which is the biggest pain because I can't seem to get him to eat anything but live fish... anyone have any luck getting mud sunfish to feed on some kind of prepared feed?

I have a few muds they are eating pellets and freeze-dried krill and freeze-dried mysis shrimp. Since getting them at about one and a half inches they've been kept first in a 55 gallon with bluespots and bandeds then in a 150 with spotted, orangespots, dollars and one larger longear as well as several assorted shiners and minnows. They also get regular live foods blackworms, pill bugs, minnows or anything else that is available ie earthworms, beetles. They really had a very simple choice early on eat and eat quick or die as their tank mates are like a bunch of piranas at feeding time. They are about 3 inches currently. When I first got them I already had the bluespots eating these other foods so they were kind of mentored and soon were rapidly out competing their teachers.

Years ago, I kept a mud sunfish. He loved night crawlers. I'm impressed that you got one to eat pellets. Mine would only take moving food.
