Does anyone recommend a good online plant supplier? There is only one LFS in the area that has good plants, but the selection is pretty small. I would prefer native plants, but I realize that it may not be possible to get all natives. I would collect myself, if it were not for two things: 1) I don't know enough about plants to know what I am collecting, and 2) it's January in the midwest.

You could post a request in the For Sale / Wanted or in the Trading Dock . There are a few people here who have native plants and would be willing to trade.

http://www.aquariumplants.com is the most reliable plant source I've found. They have almost everything, the prices and shipping are very reasonable and the plants arrive clean and healthy.

The Swap and Shop section at http://www.plantedtank.net is an excellent source. The folks are generous and the prices and quality are generally better than stores. People will offer up their trimmings for shipping or slightly more. Plus with an individual trades are always a possibility.

The problem with any of these sites is that you're going to have to know exactly what you're after, and where it is from, before you order if you want to maintain a north american biotope tank. Most of these sites won't tell you where a plant originates from, just he binomial nomenclature, maybe a common name, and a little about the size/shape and requirements.

I've done business with Everglades Exotic Plants since the late 70's. I understand they sell at retail now over the net, but my experience with them has been strictly wholesale. There's a big difference in price.

Ask about wholesale prices. There is a minumum order involved.
