I use an 'egg saver' following Bob Muller's design. Found a dozen Rough Shiner eggs yesterday from an egg saver with rocks, Java Moss, and Java Fern. I siphoned off the tank bottom.

That is Barney holding the egg saver. (Barney was living at my place before I moved in.)

I think Mysteryman assumed my egg saver had rocks on it.

"Hmmm... well, you had Java Moss in the tank and used an egg saver, so that makes it tricky to tell exactly what happened. You covered all the bases, you see. "

Now, Mikez has spawned SRBD. He used an "egg catcher".

and Farmertodd says, 'This is a great example of putting in a "chub nest dish" '.

Are there fish farm terms that we can use here for standardization purposes?

Actually I was thinking of "egg saver" but couldn't remember the exact term so I came up with "egg catcher". Just seemed so much more scientific than "pie plate full of smooth rocks".
Maybe "artificial chub nest"?

But Mikez,
your egg saver is not like my egg saver.

Is yours a 'rock tray'?

`

Catcher, saver, call it what you will.
One thing I did learn from my experience is that it would be better to leave the spawners in their main tank and provide a egg catcher/saver thingie that protects the eggs from other inhabitants and can then be removed.
My SRBD took a beating from being moved back and forth from the big tank to the 20 long spawning tank. They really banged around in panic before settling in and now look kinda ragged. I already removed one that looked too far gone and there are a few I'm gonna have to watch for fungal infections.
