Red Shiners Breeding in Captivity

I recently moved some things around and adjusted the flow in my large community aquarium. Not soon after, it seems my Red Shiners (Cyprinella lutrensis) decided it was time to spawn. Like other Cyprinella species, they are crevice spawners and I was able to view them displaying this behavior. Here's a link to the video.

I suppose I could, but I'm not interested in that right now. My tanks seems to usually be in optimal spawning conditions for a Red Shiner, so when I want to, I should be able to. Thanks for the compliments too.Very cool!
Will you be able to save the eggs?
Nice looking tank by the way.
My girlfriend at least tries to humor my obsession for now. We'll see...hahaMy wife would have said "Stop watching the fish, don't you ever do anything else?"
Thanks, I've just got to up the lighting and get a better camera, I could get some great vidoes of my fish, I've put together a great collection so far. Really gotten to see some things that I wouldn't normally get to see without spending all my time in the water.Great video, I watched a few of your others as well. You got some great setups.
Having experience with Spotfin Shiners spawning before in an aquarium, I knew that if I wanted to keep my Red Shiners looking their best (full breeding colors), I needed to have some ladies trampsing around. I currently have a few large male Steelcolor Shiners and some smaller females. When they decide to "get ready" I'll post some video of them too.My Red shiners are in constant spawn mode. Unfortunately, I have two males and no females. They spend most of their mating energy chasing shadow rivals, or trying to spawn with random fish. The other day one was trying to spawn with a dead shiner....necrophilia!
