Very nice turquoise darter, Etheostoma inscriptum.
It's important to learn to identify these things in the field, to avoid accidental take of protected species. If you're going to be out sampling extensively, you might consider purchasing a field guide (my preference is the Peterson's - Page and Burr 1991).

I can tell you that they are pretty tough little darters, take well to aquarium life (at least with a fair amount of current), come right to the front of the tank and stay visible a good deal, eat like pigs once they figure things out (including flake), totally learn to recognize you as 'the guy that throws good stuff in the water', and don't take any crap from much larger yoke darters...

I can tell you ...
I can also tell you and Laura can confirm, that when the water is really cold, a big male will have that brilliant touquoise color, from his bottom lip, solid though to his tail (throat, chest, belly, pecs, pelvics, anal fins)... really a great little fish!
