Anyone have any recommendations for modestly-priced metric calipers, that won't rust out after a single year or one trip into saltwater? Just chucked yet another set after it rusted shut on me. Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
-Barrett

Google "Plastic Calipers". They're cheap and don't rust.

It depends on what you want to do with them as to how much you're going to pay... F.V. Fowler makes superb digital calipers that are water/chemical resistant but are $$$; Mitutoyo also makes a nice unit for a bit less. Many calipers use an RS232 interface which is great if you use a PC, but as a Mac user I thought I was out of luck for electronic data capture... I recently stumbled across the info below for setting up interface cables to a Mac, seems to work great.

Of course, if you're worried about corrosion on the calipers, having a 'puter near the salt is a whole different story.

cheers,
Dave

Link didn't work, there seems to be a funky character right before "downloads".

I'm thinking of getting a hammer with a wireless LAN interface.

Sorry, just being sarcastic. I guess I could see a use for electronic calipers if you needed to measure LOTS of stuff.

Thanks everyone for the responses, was able to find plastic calipers in metric gradations for $2.50 on amazon, got a couple sets, will see how they work, may end up going for some of the higher priced models y'all suggested if they are poorly made or inprecise....
Thnaks again!
