I've been meaning to post this picture for awhile, it's a smallmouth buffalo a buddy of mine caught in Texas recently, the unusual scale pattern is probably from a scar (I guess) but pretty cool looking.

Large smallmouth buffalo are one of my favorite fish to see on the bank. Their eyes give them a really unique appearance.

I just love those fish, Pat! We have the odd black buffalo here, and even less common, the bigmouth buff"..but the only "bufallo" I catch with any regularity is the diminutive(by comparison) quillback. Neither of our larg buffs get anything close to the size the smallmouth gets in more southern waters.
