Hi everyone I just recently noticed that my crappie is not eating. The other fish I have love feeding time but the crappie just stays in it's cave all day and then comes out at night. I have yet to see it feed and am getting worried. Now he may be feeding late at night when I go to bed, but I am not sure. What can I do to encourage it to eat?

What are you feeding it? (I must ask this before I pronounce your fish a "goner").

Your crappie is frightened by something. Tankmates, too much light or movemnt?

Try feeding something that's moving, like minnows. Other than that, I have the same questions as centrarchid.

BTW, crappie are sunfish, not perch. :D

I do apologize for the mistaken identity we down in the south call them speckled perch so I assumed they were perch  umm the lighting shouldn't be the problem but as far as tankmates go umm he has a redbreast, a longear and two baby bluegills for tankmates...my greens died :sad2: I believe it was from old age...these shouldn't be scaring it should they? Thanks for the input.

Your speckled perch are generally subordinate to all the species you are housing them with when they a re of similar size and sometimes the crappie can be beaten even by smaller individuals of those species.

Man! My crappie is getting punked by the sunnies.. :( If he doesn't eat soon he's gonna die. I'm gonna throw my minnow trap out at the lake today when I go collecting and get some feeders for the tank...hopefully it's not too late.. I love my crappie.

Can I interest you in joining the Catfish Alliance? You seem to have a lot of the qualifications for membership.
