I recently acquired a lone gambusia, and it will not eat flake food. I was wondering what gambusia need to eat.

It's kind of odd that it won't take flake. Try frozen bloodworms. Give it a couple more days, and it will probably start munching on the flake.

I agree, a hungry Gambusia will usually take flake right away. I would just give it time to get hungry.

You might try crushing the flakes up so there are more bite-sized pieces for the Gambusia.

Gambusia are not that fussy eaters. They eat everything that I can offer to them. Goldfish pellets, dried krills, shrimp pellets, green flakes, frozen bloodworms, waxworms, tropical flakes, dried tubix worms and even live feeder guppies (mostly my females are over 2 inch long).

Frozen bloodworm is excellent advice! Even bluefin killifish and pygmy sunfish love them.

My female platies just had babies, think the gambusia will eat them.
