Fellowships Available in Estuarine Science
The CALFED Science Program is accepting applications from qualified
individuals to compete for fellowship opportunities in 2008. California Sea
Grant will administer and manage the fellowship program on behalf of the
Science Program. Up to 12 fellowships are available in estuarine and
riverine science for qualified predoctoral students and postdoctoral
researchers. The fellowships will begin September 2008. The application
deadline is 5 p.m., Friday, June 6, 2008.
The stipend for postdoctoral researchers is $45,000/yr. for up to 2 years,
plus eligible expenses up to $30,000. Graduate fellows will receive $25,000
/yr. for up to 2 years, plus up to $19,500 for eligible expenses (research
supplies/equipment and travel necessary to carry out the proposed research
and attend scientific meetings).
The selected fellows and their research will focus on the San Francisco
Bay-Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta system and one of these topics:
1. Trends and Patterns of Habitats, Populations and System Response to
a Changing Environment
2. Aquatic Invasive (Exotic) Species
3. Water Supply, Water Quality
4. Developing Indicators and Performance Measures

The CALFED Bay-Delta Program is a collaborative effort of 25 state and
federal agencies with management or regulatory responsibilities for
California’s San Francisco Bay-Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta system. The
CALFED Science Fellows Program pairs junior scientists with CALFED Program
agency scientists and senior research mentors. Fellows work on
collaborative data analysis and research projects relevant to ecosystem
management and water supply reliability, including analyses of the immense
monitoring database collected and maintained by the CALFED implementing
agencies.?
