Anyone in this forum have/had netted or caught some freaky looking fishes? This happened to me two weeks ago when I caught a green sunfish that have "U" gap on its back. Then last winter I caught a blind sunfish that has no eyes during ice fishing (I ate the blind sunfish).

The "U" green sunfish is in my 55 gal tank with the blue bluegill. Will take a picture of him when my laptop is fixed (the only computer that let me downloading pictures from digital camera to the computer files)

I was curious if any this happened to you while collect/fishing.

If the 'U' gap you mentioned looks how I'm imagining it, I caught a big black crappie with a similar condition in a turtle trap once.

I was curious what's cause the "U" back conditions in the sunfish as it looks like something took a bite of midsection body cause a "U". These are common in some lakes (mostly big sunfish). My green sunfish was almost down to the spine. So far he's swimming fine. Any ideas what's cause some sunfish/crappies have this condition?

... as it looks like something took a bite ...

This is what a normal smallmouth from my area looks like.

In my experience, larger SMB and SMB from turbid water will often lose distinct bars that fishes from lakes/clear water will often have. Perhaps other environmental factors also play a role but that is my two cents. I think your first fish is a smallmouth.

Here is a pics of all three spotted, meanmouth, smallmouth. The smallmouth and meanmouth were almost the same length and were caught in the exact same spot.. Hybrids are fairly common in the Maries river in central Missouri from witch these were caught. I'm still going with it being a hybrid..

Those are purebred smallmouths in your pictures

Yeah, smallmouths colors will greatly vary even within the same exact location. It could be cause by dominance issues and stuff like that. I know cichlids have this adaptation where they can be far superior coloring for the dominants and fairly pale in subdominants, which looks like your two different fish. I agree with everyone who says purebred smallmouth.

I caught a Northern Hognose Sucker with big white spots all over it. Looked to be in pretty bad shape.

Your "Meanmouth" is just an adult Smallmouth Bass, no hybrid about it. As Uland said they often lose their vertical bars when reaching maturity and/or because of environmental reasons.

Thanks,

Blake

Here's a one of the Sculpin I have in my tank. Pretty typical of the Sculpin I find although some are a bit darker.
