Hi everyboy,
i am inquisitive to know what you were doing with your gars at winter ?!
Do you let them hibernate outside in a pond, do you reduce the temperature in the tank - if yes to what temperature - or don't you change anything during the cold season ?
Are there any differences in behavoiur and well-being in relation to a hibernation resp. a non-hibernation of these fishes ?
Thank you, Frank

Gar really do not hibernate in winter. At most their metabolism slows but this really does not affect activity much.
Generally I keep my fish on a temperate cycle and lower the temp to the low 60's (sometimes 50's) during the winter months. Their feeding is much reduced but they remain fairly active.
