It looks to be the same thing that people call the spotted pike. It is actually a Characin from South America. I see them often in LFS. I don't know how big they get, as I have only seen them when they were about 5 inches. But they are for sure a tropical member of Characiformes.
Edited to Add:
After a quick search, the scientific name is Boulengerella maculata. Googling the scientific name gives you much better results.
Oh yeah, If you look really close to the top picture, you can barely see an adipose fin, which of course are not a characteristic of gars. They also do not have the ganoid scales like our gars. Hope this helps.

It is definitely no Lepisosteid and as mentioned Boulengerella maculata a South American Characin that has absolutely nothing in common with Lepisosteids..
Tricky part is that Florida gars (Lepisosteus platyrhincus) aquacultured in Asia and being imported into the US are also being called "Marble gars" or "Marble line gars"... For some particular reason the LFS Hobby refuses to ID these fish or call them what they are.
I've personally seen some really dumb made up names for Lepisostieds in fish stores. One actually was calling a Florida or spotted gar an "Alligator garpike cichlid".

Yeah, I knew it wasn't a gar, it's just so frusterating how folks name things incorrectly. My florida/spotted was labeled as na alligator gar. I what it was right away and bought it ...I really don't need a 6ft+ fish!
