Job Title Aquarist

Position Full Time

The National Aquarium is seeking an experienced Aquarist with strong husbandry skills to join its Baltimore location. The ideal candidate must have experience working with a diversity of animals, including invertebrates, fishes (freshwater and saltwater), and must also possess excellent exhibitory skills with the ability to maintain displays within the organization’s high standards. Excellent observational skills with the ability to detect specimen illness or injury are crucial.
The job responsibilities will include providing daily care to all specimens within assigned areas utilizing approved husbandry practices and maintaining the daily upkeep of exhibits, life support systems, maintaining water quality, reserve tanks and work spaces. Our Aquarists actively participate in the acquisition, transport and acclimation of new specimens and will be responsible for preparing diets according to established protocols to ensure that our animals’ nutritional needs are met.
A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Marine Science or a related biological field of study is desired for this position or a non science degree with an equivalent amount of time working in the industry can be substituted. A minimum of one to three years of experience working within a public aquarium or related facility is desired. Open water scuba certification is also required.
