What is cause black/dark marks on other side of the head in fishes? Like prefect line from mouth to the gill in just whole side of the head. Ive seen in some fish such as bass, bluegill, cichlids, livebearers etc.

What is cause black/dark marks on other side of the head in fishes? Like prefect line from mouth to the gill in just whole side of the head. Ive seen in some fish such as bass, bluegill, cichlids, livebearers etc.
This can be due to a nervous system problem, either outright damage or pressure upon a nerve. If the latter, and the cause is a tumor, etc. that is treatable (goiter, as an example), then the condition is reversible.
