Large Darter caught in Indiana

The specimen taken last fall was in the east fork of the white not the main stem.


The East Fork is a pretty big river in the lower section (both forks are actually).

The segments you mention perhaps had historic records that were fringe parts of this population, or a dozen other hypotheses. Why they haven't placed those HUCs in the map is beyond me. Could be that those segments were listed because they're in a larger more inclusive HUC that had them... Could be that someone didn't feel like adding them to the map... Could be a lot of things.

Natureserve is good for ideas, but I wouldn't bet the farm on the data :)

Hydrologic Unit Code. They're the catchment boundaries you see on the distribution map. They can be more or less inclusive. I think those are the 10 digit Units.

Yeah, I've noticed these discrepencies before. I've seen/caught species outside of the designated Nature Serve range. This must be a fairly common problem with their data or maps.
