i know i have at least one female and male speckled madtom, and at one point they looked like something was up, but nothing ever happened.
now i know its difficult to do (or is it impossible?), but is there anyway? or any species that can be breed in at home?

I've often looked at my native tank and at my madtoms and thought "how do i make them have fish sex?"

If it happens take pictures and close notes, so far there are no documented reports of spawning in the genus.
Several individuals have reported spawnings but could never repeat it .

Madtoms can be bred in home aquariums although my experince indicates photoperiod and temperature manipulation is needed. Not every one has resources to do latter.
In my opinion the redbelly daces are the easiest to breed and rear.
Sunfishes to me are very easy as well with similar resource requirments needed for some of the more aggressive central american cichlids. I or someone else could walk you through such a project. As a general rule of thumb, the more difficult the early life stages are to rear the easier the adults are to manage at spawning time. With sunfishes the choice should in part be based upon what your tank resources consist of. Have ever bred any substrate spawing cichlids?
