Yeah, my grandmother put them under her bed. I don't think there's anything to that one. But the tree's use as a source of bow-wood is probably what saved it from extinction after its natural dispersers bit the dust; Indians planted the trees all over the heartland.

Very interesting info on the osage orange! These are things that I never heard before. Things I have heard: The fruit repel spiders. (Probably not true, but it does explain why my aunt had the oranges behind her couch.) I have also heard that the wood makes good primitive bows. And the wood is very rot resistant which makes it useful for fence posts.


Osage orange is a boywer's best freind :) . Most north american bowyers consider it to be the best wood for bow making. If any of you are interested in making your own bows, this forum and magazine might interest you ----> www.primitivearcher.com. I've been wanting to order the backissues for quite some time now, but the price kind of puts me off.
