The recent Southeastern Naturalist (Vol 6 Number 4) has 2 fishy articles of interest. "Accounting for incomplete detection when estimating site occupancy of bluenose shiner (Pteronotropis welaka) in southwest Georgia" by Brett Albanese et al. and "Observations on the reproductive biology of two Notropis shiner species" by Bruce Stallsmith, Bob Muller and 2 others. There are also 2 marine fish papers in the journal.

I don't have a .pdf copy of my SE Nat. article yet, but when I receive it I'd be happy to send it to anyone who's interested. And the Albanese et al. article is also very good.

Show your email addresses. On your "My Controls" page, uncheck the "Hide my email address from other members" checkbox. Why do we need to hide our email addresses from each other? That shouldn't even be an option.

That's strictly a matter of opinion and personal choice.

As I've since figured out, even unchecking that box never displays your email address anywhere. It merely enables the link in your profile to "Send an Email". That link opens a web-based emailer that will send the member an email without ever revealing the member's email address. While I personally hate these web-based emailers, they do have certain advantages, as well as disadvantages.

Major disadvantage, IMHO: When I send an email, I want a record of what I sent in my Microsoft Outlook "Sent Items" folder. I want to know what I sent, to whom, and when I sent it. With the web-based emailer, you never get to keep any record whatsoever of what you sent, to whom, and when. It goes out into the ether, and it's gone. I would prefer that clicking "Send an Email" would open a new message in one's default email application.

Major disadvantage #2, IMHO: You cannot send attachments through the "Send an Email" link.

Major advantage, IMHO: You can send an email, and in so doing, reveal your email address to the recipient. If he then wants to reveal his email address to you, he can then do so by replying. It allows people to keep personal information private, except to those to whom they choose to reveal it. It is for this reason that unchecking the box should not be an option - it does absolutely nothing for the privacy of the individual.

Anyway, you have my email address from earlier in this thread. Please copy me on distributions related to this thread.

Actually, dredcon has everyone's email address who opted in to the discussion group. Stuff is supposed to be sent to him for distribution. We haven't heard from him in a while, though; I hope he's okay.

There's only been one distribution so far, and I'll admit that it was way over my head. Hopefully, the next one won't be ;-)

He's probably just busy with fish stuff. He's the most indefatigueable (sp?) collector I've ever met.
