So I was walking by my tank last night before I went to bed. Like usual I stopped to admire the lunar lights (those really make the tank awesome) when I noticed something odd. My large Roseyface shiner had an odd marking on it. It was hard to tell because the big lights were not on. I checked it this morning when the lights came on. On one side, the flap that covers the gill was totally ripped off. You can see the red gills out in the open. It's not swimming as much as before but seems to be alright. The fish has made it through the night. Should I let it be, or should I go ahead and euthanize the fish?
I have no idea what could have caused this. I did add the two Spotfin shiners, but these fish aren't usually that aggresive. I'm wondering if it go to close to one of the powerheads. The small inlet for an airline on powerheads have some serious suction and once before I had to pull a dead fish's head out of that inlet. I'm really aggravated about this. This was a large male and had a beautiful blue stripe down it's side and I hate to see it go.
edit title 'Rosyface' please
