Field Technician

Position: Mussel Field Technicians, 4 positions based out of Champaign, IL and 2 positions based out of Springfield, IL

Employer: Division of the Institute of Natural Resource Sustainability (INRS)

Job Description: The principle duty of these positions is to conduct field surveys for freshwater mussels at selected drainage basins throughout Illinois. Field surveys will include hand sampling for mussels and measuring stream habitat. Additional activities may include curation and collections management, data entry, and specimen preparation. Extensive travel and long hours in the field should be expected.

Qualifications: Course work in biology, fisheries, environmental science or related field is recommended. The candidate must be able to swim, hike to remote sites, work at night, and work outside under adverse field conditions (biting insects, poison ivy, muddy slopes, and in waders). Preference will be given to candidates with experience sampling and identifying freshwater mussels.

Salary: $10.00/hour

Available: May 1, 2009/ 40 hours per week (start date may be flexible)
