Wow! These fish must be able to really tolerate low D.O.!

That's very cool.
It's definitely a better version of ice fishing! (Except for all the biting bugs!) :~)
I guess they're chopping their way through a massive mat of floating vegitation.
Looks like the cats lurk under it waiting for nightfall. They're probably far more concentrated that way.
It's like someone dangling a cheese burger on a hook, through your bedroom window, when you have the late night munchies! ;~)

I beg to differ! Nothing as fun as sitting on the ice in your shanty looking down at fish as they cruise through. It's like having a giant aquarium with no mantainence!

Last time I checked, I've never been stranded on top of any of my aquariums!;~)

I've never been stranded on the ice. But then again I don't fish bodies of water large enough to have any icebreakers off to the west touching off a release of an eight mile chunk of ice that once it started the wind moved it. (Yeah the media didn't tell us about that)
One of my ponds that is gin clear has so few ice problems I have a permanent pier all the way across (200 feet). No ice moving around whatsoever. It melts in place. The water is gin clear and one can see all the way to the bottom. I plan on building a permanent ice shanty attached to the pier that I will store things in off season.
