When my electricity was off a few of my SRBD's colored up really nicely, almost as nice as the day John and I found them. So, I netted one out for some pics. They normally don't have the red during the day. When my lights go off their bellies will usually turn red for the night. These are great community tank mates. They aren't aggressive, not real picky eaters, and school well with the other fish.

Thanks for sharing, nice looking fish! My SRBD are just starting to color up, they were tank spawned by Mikez. They definatley do get along well with others.

One of my favorite fish. They really are one of the best natives to keep.
All mine are colored up, including last year's young. I just need to get on the ball and set up the breeding tank with fake chub nest.
I'm trying to coordinate with a couple other species I want to breed this year so I can raise all the fry at the same time, in the same grow out tank.

Nice looking fish there Josh. Did your orangethroat make it home alright...oh and your truck as well, or did you leave it at the office?

The orangethroat made it home...as for my truck, it wasn't as fortunate. I left it at my office to let the oil leak out....I guess I found a really slow way to change my oil.

Josh,

Awesome pictures! Thanks for sharing. What kind of camera did you use?

I have a Cannon SD750 point and shoot. It's a good all around camera. It isn't great for photoing these fish, but I usually get a couple good shots. The pic of the fish's face came out really good...not sure why.

Mine went blood red during the power failure. Got a bit sluggish, but did they ever turn red, when the tank temp got down to the high 30's. Now that temp is back to normal, all but one lost the red, though I have noticed that a couple show a bit of color right after feeding.

The darters actually seemed to like the chilly temperature. Didn't lose a single fish, and power was out for a week.
