it may sound odd but i just found out through my own curiosity that my sunfish like to eat cheese. they are actually very enthusiastic about it.
i was just wondering, what kind of nurtitional value does cheese provide for fish? i'm assuming it is a good source of calcium for them.

I'd be very worried that they can not digest such fatty food.

They can handle fat better than carbohydrates. Be careful of saturated fatty acids making up fat, you could run into same associated with feeding beef heart.I'd be very worried that they can not digest such fatty food.

Yes. Several studies with fishes have demonstrated better growth when fish are fed fat / lipid sources that are dominated by poly-unsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). The apparently desired PUFA are of the omega-3 type, just like those promoted by human health professionals. Normally the fatty acids of natural foods for fishes are also high in omega-3 PUFA versus the saturated and mono-unsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) typical of terrestrial animals fed a grain base feed. Grain based feeds are typically fed of most dairy herds used to make your cheese.
