More of an information request, than an ID request...

Caught my first "orange crappie" today ice fishing in NH. Locals tell me they see 'em once in a while. Can someone tell me what these fish are...morphs, hybrids, mutations?

All I can say is this fish was so brilliant it looked unreal, like it was plugged in. Very cool.

Thanks

Any pics? I've never heard of an "orange crappie".

I think thats just a color phase or some reaction to cold water, I have caught alot of yellowish to orangish crappie, always black crappie it seems. but every one has been during the winter, and if I remember right always in clear water. never thought about it much before, I'm pretty curious to know exactly what causes it myself
