Job Status: Full-time

JOB SUMMARY:
Primarily responsible for the acquisition, transport and care of aquatic specimens, exhibit maintenance, proper water quality and maintenance of life support systems. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Adheres to the South Carolina Aquarium Policies & Procedures. Locates and acquires desired specimens. Maintains proper water quality in all systems. Evaluates animals’ health and environment requirements. Quarantines and administers medications to animals. Develops and distributes a proper nutritional diet. Maintains exhibit aesthetics, including tank and filter cleaning and periodic renovations. Designs, constructs and maintains life support systems Provides periodic interaction with the Aquariums’ visitors. Keeps accurate records, orders supplies and maintains equipment. Provides coverage for other Aquarium’s Husbandry positions as required. Supervises Volunteers, Interns
SKILLS KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES: Ability to recognize and prevent diseases. Ability to properly collect and handle specimens. Ability to understand the mechanical equipment necessary to maintain living exhibits. Knowledge and demonstrated skill for minor plumbing, carpentry and electrical work.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: BS in biology, aquatic biology, a closely related field. Previous experience in exhibiting aquatic animals.
LISCENCED & CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED: SCUBA Certification Valid Driver’s License
