I'm right in a hot bed of glacial activity. Kettle hole ponds make up the majority of the ponds around my house.
Famous Walden Pond of HD Thoreau fame is a large and scenic kettle pond near here. Here in New England the deep, barren kettle ponds are light on native fish species. Usually plenty of introduced, especially trout.
As a former resident of Massachusetts you are dead right. I used to live near a smaller version of Walden pond on the former Ft. Devens, reservation. Only about 30 acres but 60 feet deep! Not sure how many kettle lakes there are in Mass, but I once read your small state has 5000 ponds, lakes, and reservoirs! If Mass was the size of Minnesota the land of 10,000 lakes, it would have more than Minnesota.
