I have a 29 gal. aguarium with some speckled darters, a greenside, and a johnny. I'm looking for some Ideas for adding a good current to replicate the riffles where I found them. What do yall use in your tanks?

I use Hydor Koralias. My tanks are planted and plants tend to clog powerheads, but the Koralias don't clog easily. Pick out what size you think you need and then order two sizes up from there. I have a 30 gallon with a Koralia 3 in it, that would probably be good in a 29 also.

schambers,

Your small darters don't get turned into hamburger meat when they try to swim into the Koralia?

I use any powerhad I can get my hands on... of course I try to look for low wattage to cut down on the heat transfer... but I am cheap, so I have a tendancy to look for smaller powerheads, or submersible pumps... I also use one of those Hydors and they do a good job as well... an no, I don't have any darters that can't outswim the suction... fish are much better than pumps when it comes to hydrology...

thanks for the ideas I've been looking at some of the tanks on the forum as well. I like the koralia it's not too expensive, do they heat up the water much?

No, that's one reason I chose them. I've had trouble with other powerheads overheating the water.
