In July 2007, I visited a local river that was below seasonal levels and after locating isolated pools of water, I used a pond net and caught some natives. *ALL* were live-released after photos were taken and fish were observed in buckets. I am fairly confident I identified the species correctly. However, any corrections on the ID are appreciated.
The species I caught on July 29, 2007 :
1. Species: Black Crappie (or White?) ... Total Caught = 30 (estimated); Average Size = 4.5"
2. Species: Northern Pike ... Total Caught = 3 (estimated); Average Size = 8"
3. Species: Common Carp ... Total Caught = 200+ (estimated); Average Size = 2.5"
4. Species: Brown Bullhead ... Total Caught = 1000+ (estimated); Average Size = 1"
5. Species: Rock Bass ... Total Caught = 5 (estimated); Average Size = 3"
6. Species: shiners ... Total Caught = 200+ (estimated); Average Size = 1.5"
7. Species: Bigmouth Buffalo ... Total Caught = 50 (estimated); Average Size = 1.5"
8. Species: White Sucker ... Total Caught = 50; Average Size = 2"
... And miscellaneous other minnows and substrate inhabitants.

Hi Brown Bullhead:
Excellent photos. Thanks for posting them.
I was wondering how things were at home, as I'm away fighting forest fires at the moment.
Three years ago, I netted some samples at that same location and had great luck with keeping 3 Black Bullheads and several Bluegills. "Spike The Pike" ate one of the Carp that was maybe 3/4 his size.
Now I'm down to only one male Long Ear Sunfish, and a fairly large female Bluegill.
Overall, it was/is a great experience.

Wow! I had no idea that there was an area locally with such a diverse amount of species. I have never seen a crappie around here before, and this http://img.photobuck...0729_162431.jpg looks like a bluegill. I didn't even know we had those out here. Great pictures.
