I have a marine (estuarine) aquarium with some gobies collected from the Chesapeake Bay. Looking at pictures of darters, I see a strong resemblance. Are they related species?

Not especially closely, it's a case of convergent evolution to adapt to similar ecological niches. Darters are most closely related to yellow perch and walleye in North America, and more distantly to some Eurasian perches.
