I was in Buncombe Co. just last week. Didn't do any collecting or sampling. Although I was fascinated by the larval salamanders that I caught in a creek just off of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Best place to find salamanders around here is indeed small creeks and rills off the BRP.

I should clarify. The salamanders were caught by hand while the boys were playing in a creek in the Grave Field or Grave Yard area south east of Waynesville. I put them right back because I assume that wildlife is protected in the park. They were nicely patterned though.
