Found this in a creek slightly west of the Rockcastle River in KY. Thought it was a striped darter at first. When I first caught it, it had white spots on the pectoral fins.

While researching another oddball I came across, I found references and photos to barcheek darters that mentioned the white spots while in breeding colors. Is that what this is?

Nice Striped John. I must say, of all the species of darters I've had, the striped is my favorite darter.

I should have read the entire abstract. They're closely related, and the striped also gets the white spots on the pectorals in breeding colors...

The other one I got has an almost alligator like head. Strange looking.
